The Club has a great team of instructors who all have the same passion and belief in positive dog training. Many of the team have recognised qualifications in dog training and behaviour and are members of professional organisations such as the APDT, ABTC and PDTI. All the instructors participate in regular and relevant CPD to keep their knowledge and skills based on current and progressive science-based methods.
Most instructors compete regularly in their chosen sport and have represented either their county or country at a national or international level and our club members have also competed on the national stage.

Special interests/areas of expertise:
I have always loved being around animals from an early age and began working in kennels and local veterinary hospitals from the age of 14. This encouraged me to further my education towards animal studies, where I went on to complete my National diploma in Animal management at Reaseheath College and continued further, to graduate from the University of Chester with a BSs(Hons) in Animal Behaviour. From here, I continued to gain experience working in a wide range of animal sectors and discovered a love of training, after working with exotic species in Zoo environments. I began to develop an interest for canine behaviour when I got my first dog and I now attend regular workshops to develop my knowledge and experience in dog training.
My other passion lies within animal health and welfare, as I work full time as a Registered Veterinary Nurse at a local small animal practice. Behaviour is such a big part of our animal’s overall health and wellbeing, so I enjoy educating owners whilst working as a nurse. I particularly love being involved in puppy consultations and building on their confidence, ensuring they have a positive experience at the vets from an early age.

I am passionate about helping owners build on the relationships with their dogs, through positive training methods that are effective and fun! I am also keen to help owners enjoy their training sessions equally as much as their dogs do, and remember the little successes they achieve together as a team. I love that moment when owners realise just how clever their furry companions are.

Particular passions in instructing /methods of instructing:
Having trained with a number of top handlers, I feel it’s really important to adapt your training methods to each individual partnership of dog & handler, the best route/line/way of handling for one dog may not work for another, agility is not a one size fits all, which I know only too well running one dog who will distance handle & another who is definitely a Velcro dog, by teaching the best foundations to an agility dog, this gives the the confidence as a partnership to build on and achieve their goals whatever they may be. Being able to walk a course if you compete and seeing the best line for the dog is very important to me & also having lots of tools in the skills box to be able to switch to a plan B or even C during a run if needed!

I have always loved animals, especially dogs, and over the years have been lucky to have lived with some amazing ones. It wasn’t until I had my current dogs that I became more interested in canine behaviour as well as training, completing my Level 3 Canine Behaviour Diploma in 2020. For the last 5 years I have been an assistant at obedience classes for all stages from Puppy Foundation through to Gold Level KCGCDS. I began working as an Obedience Assistant at Dig It at the start of 2023 and have loved every minute.

I was fortunate enough to grow up in a family of dog lovers getting to know toy poodles, German Shepherds and a St Bernard as well as a few Heinz 57’s! As a teenager I worked at a local boarding kennels. My career took me away from the dog world into health and social care where I eventually qualified as an NVQ assessor and went on to do a post graduate teaching qualification. I never lost my love of all things canine and of learning, so in the last few years I have been lucky enough to combine the two undertaking a range of courses and dog training opportunities and becoming the puppy and beginners trainer for a local flyball team.

Currently working towards Pro Dog trainer and School of Canine Science puppy lab
Particular passions in instructing /methods of instructing:
As an owner of a dog who carries the label ‘reactive’ I am very aware of the practical and emotional trials and tribulations involved with having a ‘difficult’ dog and have developed a real empathy for both dogs and their owners as a result. I am a huge believer in helping people to train the dog in front of them through positive, fun interactions and thinking outside the box. It is important to celebrate even the smallest step forward and not become disheartened when things appear to slip back. It’s not a case of ‘my dog can’t do it’ more ‘lets find another way of doing it’.

I first came to Dig it over 10 years ago with our puppy. Training has changed so much since then, it was still all reward based but didn’t involve the games which we now use and I just love teaching these. We had been told by our breeder that a working gun dog needed a ‘job to do’ so decided to try agility and it wasn’t long before I was hooked!

Special interests/areas of expertise:
I am primarily a behavioural trainer, specialising in a wide range of behaviour issues. My primary work is on a one to one basis for people who require a little extra help with any aspect of their dog’s training or behaviour. I also offer training for pups that are too young to come to class and run assessments for those seeking advice or who are unsure whether their dogs are suitable for a class environment.
I am a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT, UK 01281) and registered as an Animal Training Instructor (ATI) with the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (ABTC). I hold an Advanced Dog-Training Instructor qualification with the Pet Dog Training Institute (PDTI, 1426).
I was awarded a Level 5 University Diploma in Canine Training and Behavioural Management from Harper Adams University. I both taught and hold qualifications in the OCN accredited qualifications “Dog Training Theory” and “Canine Psychology and behaviour” from Reaseheath College. I continue to update my theoretical and practical knowledge and skills base on a very regular basis and actively participate in Continuing Professional Development.
Breeds of dog currently owned:
I currently own a female Lurcher (Daisy), a male Terrier cross Miniature Poodle (Chip), a female Miniature Poodle (Wispa) and a male Lagotto Romagnolo (Gino). I have enjoyed exploring different disciplines with them including, obedience, heel work to music, tricks, agility, scent work and gundog.
Wispa and Chip qualified for and competed in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Pre-Beginner Stakes Finals at CRUFTS in 2017 (Chip) and 2018 (Wispa). Chip also competed at CRUFTS in 2019 and 2020 in the interregional competitive obedience competition winning his Novice level class in 2019. All four dogs have successfully competed in Scent work UK trials from ranging from Level 1 to Level 5. After spending many years with my focus on Competitive Obedience and Scent work, Gundog and Scent work are now my main priorities.
Kennel Club Good Citizen Award Levels attained:
My three older dogs have successfully completed the Kennel Club Good Citizen Award Scheme from Puppy Foundation through to Gold. Gino has completed his Puppy Foundation and is now working through Gundog courses.
Particular passions in instructing and methods of instructing:
My main goal in instructing is to enhance the relationship between people and their dogs through developing clarity and consistency in handling and communication skills and facilitating understanding of dog’s body language. I aim to create an environment where all canine and human relationships are built on mutual trust and respect. I strive to ensure that people and their dogs learn through positive experiences and through the creation of a safe environment where they can thrive, progress and have fun.

Special interests/areas of expertise:
I've been involved with dogs for 25yrs and started my professional career in 2001 when I started work at Battersea Dogs Home. I've done various dog sports in the past and finally landed in agility. I instruct in both agility and obedience at Dig It. With agility, I love starting people off right with good foundations as this makes completing sequences and courses so much easier. With obedience, I love teaching play, recall and impulse control which are all major life skills as well as important parts of teaching agility.
Breeds of dog currently owned:
Border Collies or Sheepdogs are my passion and I share my life with two, Greg is 12yrs and Taya is 12mths, however, working at Battersea gave me a deep respect and interest for all breeds.
Activities Undertaken:
As mentioned I have competed at competition obedience, flyball, and agility, which is my personal favourite. Greg reached Grade 4 before he retired and Taya has just started her agility training and is working through the KCGCDS, so watch this space. I have also demonstrated at Discover Dog's with a beautiful playful Dalmation Puppy while at Battersea, which was totally nerve-wracking and loads of fun.
Qualifications and CPD:
HND Animal Welfare
Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Canine First Aid
Particular passions in instructing and methods of instructing:
One size is a good place to start but doesn't always fit all and I love helping people find out what works for them and their dog. I would describe my methods as reward-based, motivational, and practical. All training should be fun and enjoyable otherwise why would we or our dogs want to do it. I love helping owners understand what their dogs are communicating to them and I believe mindset and belief is half the battle. What's the saying 'Whether you believe it will or it won't you're probably right'.
Ruth Turner
Obedience & Agility
Ruth Turner, Agility & Obedience Instructor
Special interests/areas of expertise:
I work full time for an assistance dog charity, involved in all elements of the dog training from early puppy socialisation to partnership. I love working with people, building their skills in dog training and in particular coaching them to think about the dogs emotional state.
Breeds of dog currently owned:
Border Collie – Guinness
Working Cocker Spaniel – Zebby
Activities undertaken:
When Guinness was younger we would compete in agility at Grade 2 and also played around with trick training and rally, plus achieved Gold Award KCGCDS.
With Zebby we are currently doing some foundation agility training and trick training, but most importantly I’m enjoying giving Zebby an outlet for his high gundog drive; hunting, scent work and retrieving.
Particular passions in instructing/methods of instructing:
With puppies I like to focus on rewarding the desired behaviours that occur naturally and work with what drives each particular dog. There’s nothing better than seeing a person really connect with a dog and enjoy doing things together, working with the dog rather than against.
